Doesn't, but the link does come through. A backpack trip to Indian Henry's Hunting Ground this summer is the pic.

Here is a link to an interesting scholarly article on Viking place-names in England; there is quite a discussion on the "skali" root, from hall, hut, or shelter, and on page 3 of the article, a specific discussion of Winskill and Winscales, variations of the same name:

Glyn,
Just checking in on your new site. I enjoy reading Winskill updates, including my brother Ed's photos and comments. We just received notice that our Uncle Bob Winskill in California is ending his 15 years as a columnist for a local and online newspaper. His columns (which he also sends to family members) have been a wonderful source of family lore. In his discussions on topics of local interest, he included tidbits about his childhood in Tacoma and with our Canadian relatives in British Columbia. He and his first cousin in Victoria are the last of my dad's generation of Winskills.

Hello Glyn. To keep my hand in, here's a pic from a recent hike along the Carbon River in Washington State; me and my eldest daughter Christine Winskill.

Ed ... just to try and start the ball rolling on this new guestbook...I had a contact from a Katherine Locksley about my GGG Grandfather Thomas Winskill who is also Katherines ancestor. Intereting bye line is that Thomas who married Elizabeth Lockley, had a daughter name of Jane Hannah who married a Wolfgang Schmitz. Their son Maurice stowed away on a ship from Lieth Scotland to Australia and started a family. After returning to Australia from 1st world war, he changed his name to Locksley as the rest of the family in Australia had already done so. The Locksley connection being Thomas Winskill wife Elizabeth's maiden name although there seems to be a misspelling somewhere. Interesting story and has started me off on yet another search to find connections. After entering all the data in my family tree it turns out that Katherine Locksley is my 3rd cousin once removed. Good stuff this geneology!
